For the past few years, TCU has consistently had a top ten football program. How fitting, then, is it for the university to have a top ten football stadium?
While reconstruction on the west grandstand of the stadium is well underway, the east side will be receiving some upgrading as well- but sooner than expected.
According to a press release from the TCU athletic department, Amon G. Carter Stadium will be getting a second construction expansion a little bit ahead of schedule.
The east side build was originally slated to happen in the future, possibly as soon as 2013. Instead, the Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee voted Monday to commence construction as soon as the 2011 season is over, allowing a fully renovated stadium to open for TCU’s debut in the Big East.
Below are a few key points from TCU’s official press release:
-TCU received approval Monday from its Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee, acting on behalf of the Board of Trustees, to renovate the east side (visitor and student side) of Amon G. Carter Stadium immediately following the conclusion of the 2011 football season.
- The east side renovation will enable TCU to have a fully renovated Amon G. Carter Stadium in time for the 2012 season, which marks the Horned Frogs’ first year in the Big East Conference.
- Home games for the 2012 season include games against West Virginia, Cincinnati, Louisville, South Florida, Oklahoma and Virginia.
- A total of 95 donors have contributed $143 million to date, exceeding the original goal of $105 million when the initial announcement of a renovation to Amon G. Carter Stadium was made Aug. 16, 2010.
- Capacity for the completed Amon G. Carter Stadium will be 43,000 with expansion opportunities that could allow for 50,000 or more in the future.
- The new east side will feature a double deck similar to what has been created in the north end zone. The height of the upper deck will be at the level of the speakers that currently sit on the light poles of the existing stadium.
Head coach Gary Patterson summed up the future impacts of the stadium, saying “A fully completed stadium will be a positive in our recruiting efforts, as well as continuing to have a football program that makes TCU and Fort Worth proud.”
