The Allen Americans defeated the Denver Cutthroats 6-2 on Saturday night at Allen Event Center winning the series 4-1.
The Americans jumped on the board midway through the first period, when Brian McMillin scored his first of the night, wrapping one around in front of the net and past Kieran Millan for his fourth of the playoffs giving Allen a 1-0 lead. The Americans added another when Jarret Lukin put one home for his second of the post-season at the 15:17 mark from Jim McKenzie and Trevor Hendrikx. Allen had a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes.
Allen scored three times in the second period, the first coming off the stick of Jim McKenzie after a great feed from behind the Denver net from Allen Captain Jason Deitsch. It was McKenzie’s second of the playoffs. Less than a minute later, Jamie Schaafsma followed up a rebound in front of the net to make it 4-0 Allen. Alex Lavoie picked up his first point of the post-season with the helper at 4:40 of the period. Six minutes later it was Tyler Ludwig ripping one in the net from the right-wing boards to make it 5-0 Allen, with Bryce Aneloski and Jim McKenzie drawing the assists. Denver closed the gap to 5-2 after two periods with goals from Brad Smyth and Luke Fulghum.
The Americans would score one more time in the final period, when Brian McMillin put one in the empty net at 19:05 of the third to increase the Americans lead to 6-2. It was McMillin’s 5th of the playoffs to lead Allen and the CHL. The Americans win the series four games to one, and now await the winner of Rapid City and Missouri.
Game’s 1 & 2 of Round 2 will be in Allen on Sunday, April 14th, and Monday, April 15th.
