As successul as the Rangers are this season, they have more All-Stars on the disabled list than they do on the field.
The Rangers added insult to injury Sunday by adding All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler to the DL joining Colby Lewis, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison, Alexi Ogando and AJ Pierzynski.
Kinsler has been hot of late, and is hitting .302 this season with 7 home runs and 20 RBI to go along with his 24 runs scored.
The veteran second baseman is only out for about two weeks, and should come back at 100% in the first week in June.
Kinsler was hit by a Justin Verlander fastball Thursday, and couldn’t swing a bat strong enough to convince Ron Washinton to put him in the lineup over the weekend.
In turn, the Rangers have called up super-stud prospect Jurickson Profar. Widely regarded as the No. 1 prospect in baseball, Profar makes his second stint in the majors after an impressive September last season.
Profar will split time with utility man Leury Garcia at second base, and may even still allow Elvis Andrus to have a day off sometime in the next two weeks.
Pierzynski is due back Tuesday against the Oakland A’s. His oblique strain seems to be healing well.
Josh Lindblom will make his first major-league start Monday in replace of Ogando. Lindblom has been starting in Triple-A Round Rock this season.
