As first reported by ESPN Dallas Todd Willis, Ian Kinsler is working to return to the Ranger lineup sometime next week. Kinsler, out for nearly a month, has been adequately replaced by top prospect Jurickson Profar in the field but his absence has been truly felt at the plate. Kinsler has been batting .302 with a stunning OPS of .869 this season. The leadoff hitter is considered a true 30/30 player who provides pop and speed to a lineup searching for identity.
Ian Kinsler will hopefully provide the spark the offense needs upon his return. Before his injury, Ian was posting one his better batting averages. A player who provides a legitimate threat to hit homeruns AND steal bases should never be taken for granted in a lineup. It’s been fortunate a player of Profar’s talent is available to fill Kinsler’s absence but Profar is a much better player as a shortstop than a second baseman both from a fielding and plate-production standpoint.
More Good News: Profar has been showcasing his skills and increasing his, already substantial, trade value.
Amidst other injuries to the Texas Rangers, the decrease in offensive production has coincided with the increased frequency of Ranger loses. Perhaps the Rangers can stop their slide out of first place with the addition of Kinsler to the lineup, clubhouse, and field. We will find out next week…
