Texas Rangers & FC Dallas: What to Watch this Weekend in DFW

This Father’s Day weekend treat yourselves to a spot on the couch. Grab a frosty brew (or two, or…). And treat yourself to some excellent sports action. While the Cowboys continue their annual offseason drama, desperately trying to instill confidence in their fanbase despite all evidence to the contrary. Yes, the US Open is also on. No strong D/FW ties but certainly one of the more entertaining storylines with the Garcia/Woods pairing and fan-favorite Phil Mickelson trying to hold the leader spot. But what about local sports?

 Texas Rangers

As the Rangers try desperately to end their slide and reclaim first place from Oakland, fans can’t help but notice the head to head matchup with the A’s begins on Monday night at 8.05pm. A four game home series is just what a second place team like the Rangers need to change the tide and swing the standings back into their favor.

But looking ahead is a dangerous thing to do when the Rangers are in the midst of a 3 game home losing streak (and lost 6 of last 8 overall). Texas is hosting a Blue Jay team that has done very well against the Rangers of late.

The Rangers need to enter the Oakland series trending in the right direction. Or at the very least they need to end this losing streak. They have the opportunity to turn their fortune around. They have three games this weekend to regain their confidence, to play smart on the bases, to cut out the errors…

The Rangers cannot look past this weekend’s matchup against the Jays.

FC Dallas

Don’t look now but your neighborhood soccer team is in first place. Ok, look. They deserve your attention. After some much needed rest, the league leading FC Dallas will face the Portland Timbers. Dallas currently holds a six game unbeaten streak against the Timbers while the Timbers themselves are on a bit of an unbeaten streak, having not lost in the past 12 league games.

If you haven’t watched them yet, now is a great time to start.
