Texas Rangers Mailbag: Rangers Need Help

Question: Are the Rangers good enough to win it all or do they need to trade for help? – Jose

As they sit today I think they are easily a top 5 team. With so many injuries I wouldn’t want to move them much higher. Kinsler and Moreland just came back into the lineup so I expect the offense to improve but I want to see how pitchers, Ogando, Feliz, Harrison, and Lewis do in their returns. The Rangers have so many injury questions, it would be tough seeing them stand pat at the trade deadline.

Like others, I believe a deal will be made for Cliff Lee. The Rangers need a proven ace to pair with Darvish in the playoffs and Lee seems like the most reasonably priced ace available. The Rangers can acquire him for a single prospect but will need to pay majority of his salary. Jurickson Profar would not be an option to trade here – so worry not.

The Rangers would also be wise to pick up an extra outfielder with a better than average bat. They lack pop in the lineup already and could use a bat. Injury and suspension are real possibilities and trading for an extra power outfielder would limit the impact.
