Texas Rangers, FC Dallas, and Dallas Cowboys: What to Watch this Weekend in DFW

Who are these Rangers? After bookending the All Star break with some dreadfully uninspired baseball they have charged back sans Nelson Cruz.  They are back in first place in the AL West and have a very easy month ahead of them. This is a great time to extend their lead and to build some confidence heading into the last leg of the season.

The good news with FC Dallas is they didn’t lose again. Unfortunately they didn’t win either so the winless streak continues…

The Dallas Cowboys are playing their third preseason game this weekend and will hopefully provide more answers than questions this time.

Texas Rangers

This weekend the Rangers face host the Seattle Mariners for a 3 game series. Holland, Perez and Darvish are scheduled to start so those watching will get a look at some excellent pitching. Yesterday I wrote a piece on Martin Perez (Check it out here_ ) and his expectations the remainder of this season. On Saturday he will square off against King Felix.

That’s the game to watch!

 FC Dallas

It may be time to give up on the former first place club. They tied last week so their winless streak continues. FYI: Their last victory was June 12th. Now they face the team that started this whole disaster – The Portland Timbers

Dallas Cowboys

Training Camp is over but the questions continue. Here is what I’m looking for

  • Watch the Guards – Phil Costa and David Arkin have been getting manhandled the past two preseason games and need to tighten up their play. They need to improve their technique because their strength is not getting it done.

  • Watch the Tight Ends – The TE’s were a fixture in game 1 but disappeared in game 2. The run game was strong in game 1 but disappeared in game 2. I want to see more blocking from the TE’s and more catches from the TE’s. Basically…I just want to see those TE’s heavily incorporated into the offense.
  • The Safeties– J.J. Wilcox made a great play when he intercepted Terrelle Pryor last week. But he once again had plays in which he looked lost and was slow to react. I’m really looking for Wilcox to improve his confidence and execution and make a play for Will Allen’s starting spot.

Saturday 8/17

At Arizona 3:30pm
