Jakes Takes: The Dallas Cowboys’ Final Preseason Game

Date: August 29th

Kickoff Time: 7PM

Opponent: Houston Texans

In the pre-season finale on Thursday night there is plenty to watch for. From battles at Safety to struggles at Guard there are multiple players to keep an eye on tonight as Dallas faces off against Houston.

Here are my top things I’m looking at tonight:

I would watch for S Jeff Heath to put pressure on the Cowboys decision makers.  I would strongly consider keeping him over McCray.

I would also like to see Alex Tanney play a strong game and make a push for the final 53 man roster.  I know it seems like a stretch but I don’t think he will clear waivers.

Kevin Kowalski was playing pretty good before he got hurt.  I would be content if the Cowboys kept him and Arkin as the backups.

I feel they could come in and play if someone was hurt.  I also believe they have to cut ties with Livings.

A lot of these considerations depend on the Special Teams Roster.  I realize McCray is a strong Special Teamer but he is not an effective Safety at all.  This is somewhere that I would go younger if I could.

Kickoff is so close I can feel it in my chest… Go Cowboys!
