Predictions

The second game is always the hardest to predict. We know just enough about each team to be dangerous. The clear reality is this is a very good matchup and can go either way. The Chiefs have a strong and potentially dynamic offense. The offensive line is considerably stronger than the one the Cowboys faced in week 1 against the Giants. Jamaal Charles is a multi-skilled game-breaker who can contribute in both the pass and run game. He is Andy Reid’s faster (and more dangerous) version of Brian Westbrook. If the Cowboys can contain Charles they have a very good chance.

Alex Smith is a true bus driver quarterback. He won’t singlehandedly win or lose a game (Consider him the Anti-Romo). Smith is not great under pressure but he’s excellent at completing short timing-based routes in a clean pocket. He can methodically charge the KC Offense down the field if he’s given the chance. And I believe Dallas will give him that chance.

The Dallas pass-defense was extremely suspect last week. With Mo Claiborne banged up, the struggles could certainly continue. Dallas will work hard to limit the big play above all else.

On Offense, the Cowboys will try to establish the run. After limited success running and falling behind early, they will crank up the volume and go to the air. I think the Cowboys will win in true Tony Romo come-from-behind fashion.

Prediction: Cowboys 27 Chiefs 24

Blue and Silver Brethren: Get your #2 pencils ready, because there is a big test on Sunday.  Our offensive line (potentially featuring Waters) squares off against a very tough pass-rush, Dez faces even tighter coverage, and our defense looks to contain perhaps the most agile running back in all the NFL.  At the end of the day, these former Cotton Bowlers are pretty evenly matched, but the Cowboys have just a few more weapons.  It’ll be close, but the ‘Boys will take it 24-21 in the first OT game of the season.

Prediction: Cowboys 24 Chiefs 21 F/OT

The Cowboys travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in the second game of the season. While the Chiefs did not have any standout offensive stats from their game one victory, their quarterback Alex Smith was able to successfully spread the passing game around among 9 different players. This could be a problem since the Cowboys secondary is hurting with Morris Claiborne nursing an injured shoulder. The Chiefs defense was able to notch 6 sacks against the Jaguars. Anyone think Romo, with his bruised ribs, can hold up to that? Here is my prediction. The Cowboys offense will struggle and the defense will not be able to come up with the turnovers as they did in game 1.

Prediction: Cowboys 20 Chiefs 24
