The Cowboys are 1-1 and looking to get back to a winning record. Today the Cowboys host the St. Louis Rams to complete their 2-stage battle of Missouri (having played the Chiefs last week). What can we predict for today’s game?
The St. Louis Rams are explosive. Their offense is much more like the Giants offense Dallas faced in week one and less like the plodding Chiefs offense from last week. If the Cowboys cannot put significant and steady pressure on Rams QB, Sam Bradford, things could get ugly in the Dallas secondary.
The Dallas secondary has had a hard time executing Monte Kiffin’s coverage schemes this season. They are leaving massive holes in the zone coverage, have been slow to react, hesitant to hit, and timid in press.
The Linebackers have been a little slow to pick up coverage as well but for what they lack in coverage they make up for in speed.
They have been quick to the ball and have displayed great lateral speed. Expect more blitzes and more disguised zone coverages from the Dallas LBs.
On offense, the Cowboys need to find an identity. The coaching staff wants a somewhat balanced running game and a short timing-based pass game. All of which to be built around the 2 TE offense.
Two weeks into the season, fans have seen little attempt to establish a run-game and they have seen how little of an impact the 2 TE Offense is making. The wide-open spread out offense of the Cowboys continues to show results causing many to wonder why the Cowboys don’t play 3 WR, no-huddle, pass-heavy offense all the time.
These next couple weeks will tell us plenty about the team and if it has the guts to stick with the plan or if it can’t resist the wide-open offense. Expect to see a more prevalent running game and deeper passes down field.
In terms of scoring, this game should look more like the NY game and less like the one in KC. The Rams are going to be very good, very soon. I just don’t think it will happen this week.
Final Score: Dallas 30 St. Louis 23
