Sep 22, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware (94) celebrates a sack in the third quarter against the St. Louis Rams at AT

Going into this season I thought the Cowboys Defense was going to get gashed in the run game.  I also wasn’t too sure how much pressure they would be able to get on the QB.  Although I did think that they would end up being a good unit, I wasn’t sure how long it would take for them to get there.  I mean Anthony Spencer has been hurt, and they lost Tyron Crawford for the season.

Well, we are three weeks into the season and this defensive line is good. Really good.  The Defense as a whole has been good and getting better every week.  The line however is approaching dominance.  They have been awesome against the run and they are putting some serious heat on the QB.

From the Rams opening play on Sunday, Demarcus Ware and company were causing havoc.  It was relentless and effective.  Between Ware and Hatcher, the opponents QB’s have been pressured consistently.  Nick Hayden has done a great job along-side Hatcher on the inside and Selvie has done a great job opposite of Ware.

I knew Rod Marinelli was going to make an impact but I did not know it would be this sudden and this dynamic.  Ware has not missed a beat with his hand on the ground.  Jason Hatcher is going to leave the powers that be with a tough decision regarding a contract extension when this season is done.  Selvie and Hayden seem like keepers and have done a great job so far.The Cowboys have decided to go young at Safety, with JJ Wilcox getting the nod.  He seems like a bit of a ball-hawk not to mention his bone-jarring hits.  This is a great move, give some young guys a chance and see what happens.  The longer these guys play together and gel, the better this Defense as a whole will become.

It is still early but barring injury it will be exciting to see what this Defensive unit could become.  And to think the Tampa 2 expert Tony Dungy said Kiffin would need years to get this Defense right, just like we had a 0% chance to win in New Orleans a couple years back.  Keep em Comin Dungy, Keep em comin…
