It’s almost as if the Texas Rangers enjoy breaking our hearts, isn’t it? The Rangers just completed their “must-win” series against the Kansas City Royals and … lost. After a series of excellent pitching and pathetic batting the Rangers managed to lose 2 of 3 games in KC.

Before the game a valid argument could be made that the Rangers needed to sweep the Royals. And that a simple 2 of 3 would not suffice given the remaining schedule for Texas vs. the remaining schedule for Cleveland. Why care about Cleveland? As most of you know, they are now what stands in the way between the Rangers and last Wild Card spot.

Cleveland has a ridiculously easy schedule going forward. They face the 65-90 Twins and the 61-94 White Sox. Both teams are on autopilot now and series victories against each are almost guaranteed.  The Rangers play the 51-105 Astros followed by the 76-79 LA Angels.  The Astros are always a welcomed sight but the Angels are much scarier than even their record implies.

This series against the Astros really needs to be a sweep for the Rangers to feel good entering the final showdown with the Angels. The Rangers just won game one in convincing fashion. One down. Two to go.
