Jakes Takes: Cowboys at Eagles Preview

Oct 13, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams (83) celebrates a third quarter touchdown in the third quarter with Dez Bryant (88) against Washington Redskins cornerback David Amerson (39) at AT

Here comes another week where the game is highly important to both teams.  First place in the East is on the line when the Dallas Cowboys visit Lincoln Financial Field. Both teams have offenses that can put points on the board, and defenses that can allow big plays and big points.  This game will more than likely come down to the mistakes, as most of them do.

The Eagles are not revealing who their starting QB will be but either Foles or Vick can cause the Cowboys some problems in different ways.  Vick is more of a dual threat while Foles is more of a pocket passer, Foles did play really well against the Bucs last week.  Either way the difference maker for the Eagles is “Shady” McCoy, he is a dynamic playmaker and coupled with Desean Jackson will be a tough task.

The Cowboys have had a tough time running the ball lately but it would really be a good time to get that going.  Their best chance on defense is to keep the ball away from the Eagles offense with long, time-consuming drives.  The Cowboys also need to protect the football, and play mistake-free football  to have the best chance.

The Eagles are vulnerable on defense and the Cowboys have to attack when given the opportunity.  Dallas has done a great job of scoring early and they need to continue to do that.  If they can get a jump on the Eagles it will take the crowd out of the game early and make life a lot easier.  This is a tough place to play and the Cowboys need to remember that.

The bottom line here is that the Cowboys need to get a win-streak going and these next few games before the bye are extremely important to this football team.  The best way to build a cushion in this division is to continue to beat the teams within it.  Both of these teams are 2-0 against division opponents and this could be the springboard that each of these teams need.

Key Cowboy:  Tony Romo, with the running game struggling and the defensive inconsistencies it is up to Romo to be the guiding light for this football team.

Prediction:  The Cowboys beat the Eagles in a tough bout 31-24

Topics: Dallas Cowboys, Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Tony Romo
