Dallas Cowboys Draft Has Worked Out Well

After the 2013 Draft there was all kinds of mumbling going on about the Cowboys and their picks.  Well so far so good for Dallas.  I remember the whole NFL Network set butchering the Travis Frederick pick, Micheal Irvin even said “they’re comin for ya boss”.  He was obviously talking to Jerry Jones, whom say what you want about the guy often sticks to his board.  Besides the dreadful 2009 Draft I think the Cowboys do a good job in acquiring good players in the Draft.

Now this isn’t to say that the 2013 Draft was a huge success, we wont know that for a couple of years.  For now though they have filled holes of need and it seems they have found starters for the future.

Travis Frederick along with Brian Waters have solidified the Offensive Line.  Terrance Williams looks like he is going to be around for a long time and it seems he was a steal in the third round.  J.J. Wilcox is getting better every week and seems to have a nose for the ball.  B.W. Webb is a bit of a project but that is fine, if he can improve over the next year then it will be a good pick.  Joseph Randle has been a decent backup at Running Back and at least provides some insurance.  Devonte Holloman was a playmaker in the Pre-Season, he just hasn’t found the field much in the Regular Season.  Gavin Escobar looks like he needs some time to bulk up and improve his blocking, but he could turn out to be a solid TE.

With all of that said, each of these guys made the team and has contributed.  That means the team has gotten younger and in a couple cases better.  It was foolish of everyone to overreact in the first place but such is life. The last several drafts have drastically improved the talent on this team and although it has not translated in to more victories it is bound to.  Some of this can certainly be attributed to Jason Garrett and the scouting department but Jerry deserves some credit here too.

However that will never ever happen.
