Week 9 Editor’s Prediction
The Minnesota Vikings coming to town could not have come at a better time. Last week’s Debacle in Detroit (trademark pending) broke the collective spirits of the Dallas Cowboys. Their fragile psyche needs an easy win in order to bounce back this season- enter the Minnesota Vikings.
At the midway point in the 2013 season, the Vikings are no longer playing for a postseason. They are playing for their jobs. The QB situation in MN has been very unsettled. Christian Ponder is expected to start and most likely provides them the best chance at an aerial attack. But regardless of who plays QB for the Norsemen, Adrian Peterson figures to be both the Alpha and the Omega for this MN offense.
Dallas will focus on keeping eight in the box and stopping AD from running all over them…er…all day. Struggling CB, Brandon Carr, will need to earn back his confidence (and dignity) on the field. There’s simply no time to hold his hand. Expect plenty of Cover 1 defense with the safety largely focusing on the side opposite Carr.
Defensive Player of the Month, Sean Lee, will look to be involved early and often. Expect him to play aggressively against the run attacking gaps at the snap. Ponder doesn’t shy from short crossing routes making Sean Lee’s impact in pass coverage also likely. Simply put: Expect the best defensive player to play like the best defensive player.
The Offense will remain patient and avoid unnecessary gambles early. It will be interesting to see how the O-line plays without leader, Brian Waters, in the lineup. A modest rushing day should be expected. Not much more.
In the end, the Cowboys will play a very aggressive defense combined with a patient offense on their way to victory.
