Scouting Report: Ra'Shede Hageman

With the offseason underway, it is draft/free agency season. In this segment, “Scouting Report”, I will be posting scouting reports of who I believe the Cowboys should covet in the 2014 NFL Draft. Stay tuned daily, as I will be writing a few per day.

Ra’Shede Hageman shined in his senior year at Minnesota. He was a first team all-Big Ten, and a third team All-American. He received the Bronco Nagurski Award, an award given to Minnesota’s most valuable player.

- 6-6, 312 pounds

- 36 inch vertical

- Bench presses 465 pounds

- A converted basketball player, who is a freak athlete.

- Was on Bruce Feldman’s Freaks list

- Was asked to play basketball for Tubby Smith, declined to play football

- Extremely versatile

- Physical

- Plays with good pad level

- Has an amazing burst off the ball

- Very disruptive

- Can play DT or DE

- Can miss tackles

- Has some off the field issues

- He needs to bulk up to be a defensive tackle

- Questionable work ethic

The Fit

With Jason Hatcher set to hit free agency, the Dallas Cowboys will be in the market for a DT. With little salary cap space, the Cowboys should look towards the draft for a defensive tackle. A guy on their radar should be Hagemen. Hagemen is a guy who could rise up draft boards due to his athletic ability. He is just a freak. The Cowboys could draft him with their first round pick.

Scout Grade: 88/100

I’m definitely going to enjoy your prospect/draft scouting reports.
& Hageman would absolutely be my choice. If not him, then Beasley. Who I’m looking forward to your report on him.

& just a little info for you. I just read a mock draft on another site.
    Here’s what our projected picks:
    1) Benardick McKinney – Miss St
    2) Jimmy Garoppollo – Eastern Illinois (Dallas loves those Eastern Illinois guys huh? Lol)
    3) Gabe Jackson – Miss St
    4) Daniel Mccullers – Tennessee
    5) Jeremy Hill – LSU
    6) Devon Kennard – USC
    7) Ryan Grant – Tulane
    8) Kenarious Gates – Georgia.

Now, if this is our draft, I’m sorry, not good enough. We need defensive players, not another RB a WR. & while I like McKinney & Mccullers, not taking Hageman, Beasley with our 1st pick is just nuts.
    But that’s just me.

Hey Jimmy, thanks for the comment. I saw Matt Miller’s mock draft too. I agree with you. I don’t think it’s good enough. Despite Romo’s bad back, I don’t believe we have enough talent to take a backup quarterback in the second round. I really like the pick of McKinney. Right now, I’m scouting defensive tackles. Next, I will scout defensive ends, safeties, quarterbacks, guards, and receivers. For more info on the draft & free agency, follow me on Twitter: @ryanrattyDFW

McKinney is a good kid, I wouldn’t be mad at that pick. But no way can you take Garoppollo with the 2nd pick, that’s ridiculous.

Looking forward to the next installment.
I’m going to follow you right now.

        Hey Ryan, Happy New Year!
I’ve been trying to figure out the Cowboys $ situation for next year by looking at how the players who would probably be gone & guessing on a few others, I have no clue what I’m doing lol.
So what I wanted to know, if I ran something by you, if you thought it would be possible, work, you like it or don’t like it.

First thing, trade Orton. Let’s say Oakland, Jets, Tampa, somewhere that a team bringing in or has a young qb, so they would have a solid back up. We could add a late Rd draft pick, maybe 6. We could then resign Tanney, I’m sure Cleveland will be, if not already did, cut him. He knows the system & we’ll assume Romo will be healthy for 2014.
Then trade, as much as this pains me to say, Witten to New England for a 3rd Rd pick. I know people aren’t sold on Escobar in terms of his all around game. I think he’s a stud in waiting. Hated where we drafted him, but nonetheless, he’s big, catches everything, & is pretty quick for a TE. His blocking is suspect, we know. But the more he gets playing time & reps with the first team, he’ll get better at it.
And then, another possible painful move, trade Murray. That could get us an early 3rd or 4th Rd pick. There is no more premium on the RB position. So they can always use a late round pick on a RB. Because I don’t see the top 7 backs all going within the first 4 Rds. So there should be 2, maybe 3 in the later Rds.
Then, between Ware, Hatcher, Spencer, Wynn, Sims, Carter, Hannah, Austin, Scandrick or Claiborne, Tanner or Randle, Bass, Jones and Heath or Church.
Now, I’m assuming these are the most probable players that decisions of staying or going would be made on.
I’m sure between Ware, Hatcher and Spencer, one is staying, 2 will be gone. Now personally, I would let Hatcher walk & choose between keeping Ware and Spencer. What’s your thoughts on that one?
So I’m figuring, if Jerry made enough moves to gain some payroll flexibility, it would be a possibility that we can sign Jarius Byrd, Michael Bennett or Michael Johnson, not both. But, if we could sign the safety & a DE, it would open up the draft for us to get 2 DT with our first 2 picks, or a DT & LB with the 1st 2 picks. And that would open up the possibility of grabbing a guard in the 3rd round. Or even trading one of our third Rd picks, if what I said above happens, for a 6th this year and let’s say a 3rd next year.

And with the amount of depth on defense in this draft, we could definitely draft a CB, just to add depth, an OL, we could use another guard, and another DT or DE, one of those, “the ability, just needs some work” guys, with the extra picks we would have.

And then, maybe if Murray or McCarron is still on the board, we could grab one of them.

What’s your thoughts? I know it’s a stretch. Just wanted to see if you think I’m onto anything. Thank you

Thanks for the comment again, Jimmy. I hate to say this, but I disagree with a few things. First, I don’t see any team giving up any draft selection for Orton. Yes, he is a good backup. But, he is just that… a backup. Second, this team can’t trade Murray or Witten. Witten is the guy developing Escobar! But, Murray is a great player. In just 14 games, he had over 1400 total yards! Problem is, they don’t give him the ball enough. Although he is regressing, Jason Witten isn’t leaving Dallas. He’s one of the main leaders on this team. Getting to Hatcher and Spencer, they gotta let both of these guys walk. Both will want big paydays, and Cowboys fans have gotten bit by that bug in the past (Miles Austin & Jay Ratliff). For free agency, I believe a guy Dallas should sign is Michael Johnson from Cincinnati. He is extremely underrated and can be a great player in our 4-3. If there is enough money, sure you could sign Byrd. But, more likely or not, there won’t be enough money. We should look into the draft for a safety. A guy like Clinton-Dix (I will get you a scouting report in the next two weeks or so on safeties) could really make an impact on this team. I definitely think taking a QB is a good idea in this draft. A guy like Kenny Guiton in the 7th round sounds good to me. He is talented and could never show his talent at Ohio State behind Braxton Miller. Gotta draft a lot of defense in this year’s draft. Maybe two offensive players (a receiver and a QB). Thanks for your input Jimmy.

Great answers, thanks for responding. I kinda thought it was a long shot lol. I was just thinking outside the box a little.
I absolutely agree about Johnson, I think he can be a monster.
So you think Hatcher and Spencer go & Ware stays, okay. I do agree about Hatcher, can’t pay him at his age based off of one season.
And would you let Spencer walk because of his health concerns now or $?
As for the qb, you’re not the first person who said Guiton. A lot of my fellow Cowboy fans said the same thing.
And no chance at getting Decker or about tj Ward?
More likely they draft a receiver and a safety then, okay.
I appreciate you not BSing me.
            Thank you.
            And you’re welcome.

          • Jimmy DeMarco

And as for Dix, absolutely agree. Immediate impact player on our defense. If that’s how it plays out.
Looking forward to your scouting reports on safeties.

          • Ryan Ratty

I want Clinton-Dix in the first round. Barry Church is a good player, but he does not have that impact that a guy like Clinton-Dix could have on a game.

          • Jimmy DeMarco

Agreed. If Dix Is there when we pick, I think that’s who we’ll take.
