Dallas Cowboys: Help Might Be Hard To Come By

Nov 28, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware (94) runs on the field before the game against the Oakland Raiders during a NFL football game on Thanksgiving at AT

The Cowboys need some major help, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. There will be a much different set of line-men next year, and they have to get better at safety, Jeff Heath can never be a starter for this team again. There are many decisions that need to be made that will drastically affect this team in the next few years. Dallas has several players that are not worth their salary cap hits (Ware, Austin, and Witten come to mind).

DeMarcus Ware has since clarified his post-game comments about “helping out” in regards to taking a pay cut. What he actually meant was re-structuring, which means more money for Ware up-front. CUT HIM!! DeMarcus Ware is not worth half of the money he will be paid, take the hit for the good of the team and CUT HIM! Restructuring players such as Austin and Witten and Ware is why this team is in Cap Hell. This team has to wizen-up and in regards to over-paying old players.

Is Jason Witten a good player? Sure he is, one of my favorite Cowboys ever, but look at Tight Ends around the league. They are athletic and they are play-makers. Aside from the one nice catch against the Eagles, this is not Witten. Witten makes catches that hit him ONLY in the chest and they are usually for 7 yard gains. Either he takes a pay-cut, or they should cut him, plain and simple. Miles Austin has a zero percent chance of returning, when I think underachieving, I think Miles Austin.

The Cowboys will have no money to spend so the draft is going to be super important for the up-coming season. They need starters and they need a lot of them. DaVonte Holloman played really well against the Eagles, lets hope he can be a huge contributor next year because Ernie Simms, Cameron Lawrence and Justin Durant are worthless.

The main issue is that just to get under the cap, the Cowboys will likely have to restructure a bunch of deals and that will only keep old, underachievers around longer because it will increase their cap number down the road. Dallas has to stop doing this, they need to use the Doug Free formula, take a pay-cut or hit the road.

The Cowboys need starters and depth at every level on the defensive side of the ball and they wont have enough resources to get that done. The positive for this team is that the offensive line is somewhat solidified, Mackenzy Bernadeau played well at Right Guard. They have Austin’s replacement (Terrance Williams), the offense in general is decent. They have to take their lumps and cut the dead-weight now. Before the window is closed and it’s officially too late.
