Scouting Report: Aaron Lynch

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

With the offseason underway, it is draft/free agency season. In this segment, “Scouting Report”, I will be posting scouting reports of who I believe the Cowboys should covet in the 2014 NFL Draft. Stay tuned daily, as I will be writing a few per day.

Background

When Aaron Lynch transferred from Notre Dame to USF, a big spotlight was put on Lynch on this Bulls defense. Lynch has a ton of potential with the frame he has. After his Freshman year, Lynch made the All-American Freshman fresh team.

Measurements

- 6-6, 244 pounds

- 4.76 40-yard dash

Info

- 5.5 sacks in his freshman year

- 7 tackles for loss in his freshman year

- All-American Athletic Conference first team

Strengths

- Extremely athletic

- Versatile

- Explosive

- Elite first step

- Good length

- Long arms

- Strong motor

Weaknesses

- Lack of experience

- Lack of competition

- Jumps offsides a lot

- Makes mistakes

- Must learn to play smart with his energy

- Has to make a solid transition to the NFL

The Fit

I am one of the biggest supporters of Aaron Lynch. I believe he can turn into a player on JJ Watt’s level. Lynch possesses an elite body frame for an athletic defensive end. If his potential catches up to him, Lynch is going to be a really fun player in the NFL. Also, he can be chosen in the third round. Lynch has first round potential for a player who could get chosen late in day two.

Scout Grade: 85/100
