The Dallas Mavericks enter tonight’s game against the Orlando Magic with a 22-16 record and holding onto the 8th and final playoff spot in the West. The Magic come to town with a 10-27 record and look to upset the Mavs on their home court.

With two day’s rest, Dirk Nowitzki returns to the court after dropping 40 in a big win over lowly New Orleans. This week the schedule picks up as the Mavericks face the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, the Phoenix Suns on Friday, and the Portland Trailblazers on Saturday. The Mavericks cannot afford to lose tonight with the next three opponents offering much more significant challenges than the Magic.

The challenge tonight will be overlooking the Magic and letting an easy win slip away. Rick Carlisle will look to get up quickly and keep minutes low for his veterans. Saving their energy today will pay dividends later in the week. With Shawn Marion still likely out of the lineup, the Mavs will need to do this without one of their top all-around players.
