Dallas Mavericks Notebook: Marion is Back, Harris Close

The Return of The Matrix

Forward Shawn Marion finally returns to action tonight in a road game against the Los Angeles Clippers (9:30 PM CST on Fox Sports Southwest). Marion has missed the last four games due to a bruised right shoulder and ribs. He experienced some soreness after going through his first full practice in more than a week on Tuesday, but should be good to go. Marion, 35, is  averaging a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game and will add a much-needed defensive presence to the lineup. The Mavericks are currently 19th in the league in Points Allowed, giving up 101.2 points per game.

Harris is almost ready

Guard Devin Harris has nearly recovered from maybe the longest toe injury of all time. Rick Carlisle said after Tuesday’s practice that the 30 year-old guard is “getting closer and closer” but still probably a week away from seeing the court. Once healthy, Harris will likely be the third option at guard behind Jose Calderon and Monta Ellis. His experience and perimeter defense will not only add depth at the guard position, but will help keep Dallas in the postseason hunt, too.

Tough Stretch Ahead

Starting tonight, the Mavs play three straight games against Western Conference foes currently in the playoff picture. After the Clippers this evening, Dallas faces back-to-back night tests against the Suns in Phoenix on Friday before returning home the next night to take on Portland. Their opponents during this stretch have a combined record of 75-38. The good news, though, is that the Clippers and Suns will be without their best players, with both Chris Paul and Eric Bledsoe still out with injuries.
