Dallas Mavericks: Mark Cuban Will Make a Pitch to LeBron James

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

It is no secret that Mark Cuban is one of the loudest owners in sports, but with good reasoning. Although he is not afraid to speak his mind, Cuban is still one of the most well-liked owners in the NBA. With a stacked free agency class in 2014, Cuban plans on going after the cream of the crop once again. At the end of the season, some of the top free agents include LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, and Greg Monroe. Cuban has already stated that he plans on going after LeBron when the season is over.

In the past few years, Cuban has failed to bring in star players like Dwight Howard and Deron Williams. With Dirk Nowitzki on his last leg in the NBA, it is easy to see why past free agents haven’t taken their talents to Dallas. While the Mavericks were able to sign Monta Ellis, he is not on the same level of a player like Dwayne Wade. Although, the signing of Ellis has really resurrected his career.

Signing a player like LeBron James would give the Mavericks a star player to rely on after Dirk retires. James could come in to Dallas and play next to Dirk and Ellis. The three would create a nice trio, with role players like Shane Larkin and Jose Calderon. In fact, an offense with LeBron and Calderon would create problems all across the court.

What Would LeBron Mean to the Mavericks?

Bringing in a player like LeBron James would mean the world to the Dallas Mavericks. It would cost the Mavericks a ton of money, but the world knows Mark Cuban would do anything to bring in one of the NBA’s best. It is clear that Dirk is close to retiring. When that does happen, the Mavericks will have even more cap room to bring in a top-flight free agent.

What Happens if they Miss Out on LeBron?

If the Mavericks miss out of LeBron, Cuban should target players from a bad team. The player that makes a ton of sense for the Mavericks is Kyrie Irving. The Duke product is quickly becoming one of the league’s top point guards. But, Irving’s talents are being wasted on a team like the Cavaliers. By hearing that Cuban will make a pitch for LeBron, Mavericks fans should know that their owner knows that the future without Dirk is near. Cuban is on the clock to lead this team in the future, and it all starts this offseason.
