Mavericks Week in Review: Dirk powers Mavs to Perfect Week

What a difference a week makes. Dirk is carrying this team but is finally getting help. Let’s review this past week.

  • Dallas allows 35 by Rudy Gay but still gets the victory against the Kings
  • Cleveland rolled over and gave Dirk some must needed rest in an easy victory
  • The Mavericks actually win a game against a decent team by beating Memphis

After falling on their face in the previous week, the Mavericks needed this 3 game sweep to put them back into the playoff picture and to put them in position to get 10 games over .500 before the all star break.

The reason for this streak is simple. Dirk has been red hot but even more importantly our starting center has decided to compete consistently.  When our center does that, this Maverick teams is different. The team is able to compete  for rebounds and there are far less uncontested layup.

Our starting center also makes up for the back court defensive deficiencies. Basically everything is different when he gives an above average performance for an entire game. All that said here are the issues.

He has never, and I mean never shown an ability or interest to be consistent. My gut tells me he will disappear for the next 4 games and the Mavericks will struggle. I could be wrong, but I am looking at his past performance. I will not use his name until I see the consistency.

So let’s look at the week ahead. The Mavericks need to get victories at Utah, Boston and Charlotte. From there they will most likey get run out of the gym but Indiana and Miami. That is just fine by me because that will put the Mavericks in position to get 10 games over .500 after the break.

So it begins another Friday.
