Former Texas Tornado fan favorite Billy Skwarczewski and his family are in dire need of prayer. Billy was admitted to Henry Ford Hospital in Macomb Township, MI in “extremely critical condition” after being struck by a drunk driver as he crossed the street.
The accident occurred Tuesday morning around midnight near 21 Mile Road and Garfield Road. A 17 year old girl was driving the car that hit Billy and rather than stopping to call paramedics, she drove home to tell her mother.
Billy was found in the road by a motorist who called 911. The passerby told the 911 dispatcher what he saw. “I was just going south on Garfield and I see car pieces everywhere and there’s a guy laying in the middle of the road here.” The impact knocked him out of his shoes and left him unable to move or speak. Authorities have no idea how long Billy was lying in the road before being found by the motorist.
“Big Billy” as he was affectionately known by Tornado fans is suffering from severe head injuries, upper body and leg injuries. He was in a crosswalk when struck.
The teen age girl later turned herself in and was booked, blood drawn for analysis and then she was released pending results of the analysis. Results could take up to a couple of weeks. Prosecutors will be monitoring Billy’s condition to determine the final charges that will be filed against the girl. However, they have already indicated that she will be charged as an adult.
