Colby Lewis took the mound Sunday for his second start of the spring. It only took him 23 total pitches to get through 2 innings. He only allowed 2 base runners with 1 hit and 1 walk. The hit he did give up was weakly hit to second base. He also added a strikeout.
Coming into spring Colby Lewis was excited to finally be on the field and getting ready for the season. He missed all of last season after hip surgery. The surgery caused Lewis to change his throwing mechanics yet he was very confident and said he felt better than he has in years. He is pitching well this spring and could start the season as the 3rd starter.
Going into Tuesday’s game Jurickson Profar had already collected 10 hits in 33 at bats. He has scored 8 runs, knocked in 11 runs and walked twice while hitting 2 home runs. With Ian Kinsler recently making comments about the organization, Profar has the perfect opportunity to make fans quickly and show that this team was right about the former #1 prospect in MLB. If he can continue to get on base and hit for some power, this line-up could be special. With Profar hitting at the bottom of the order and getting on base this pitching staff can actually lean on the line-up, unlike last season.
Michael Choice is also impressing this spring. He has hit for power and showed you he has the arm to throw base runners out at any time. He could be a starter next year with Alex Rios in the final year of his contract. Also, if Choice continues this play during the season, he can make Alex Rios tradeable if the right opportunity comes up.
NOTE: Matt Harrison was scheduled to throw an inning on Tuesday morning. Derek Holland has finally made it to Surprise, AZ and was seen throwing. Joe Saunders will make debut in today’s game vs White Sox.
