The Mean Green’s head football coach says he is as hungry as he has every been and solidified the statement by signing his name on the dotted line.
Dan McCarney signed a new contract extension that runs through the 2018 season that will be worth $3.625 million.
The worth of the new contract makes McCarney one of the highest paid coaches in the Conference-USA.
With incentives, the total package has a base salary that could be as high as $850,000 per season.
McCarney is already in the North Texas football record books as he has won 18 games in the three years he has been with the program. The rate at which McCarney reached 18 wins is faster than any coach at North Texas since Rod Rust in 1967-69.
UNT finished at 9-4 last season which is tied for the second most wins in school history.
The Heart of Dallas Bowl win over UNLV is just the third bowl victory in UNT’s history.
The Mean Green football schedule for the 2014-15 season includes a season opener at Texas and a home matchup against SMU.
