Just A Hunch: The Cowboys Will Be Good This Year

Dec 15, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett celebrates a touchdown as wide receiver Dez Bryant (88) and running back DeMarco Murray (29) leave the field in the second quarter against the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

I know that we are still a long way from actual football to begin, free-agency is now just about done for the Dallas Cowboys and they now set their sights to the Draft.  Dallas did a good job of filling holes on the D-line, and they were disciplined with their money.  It has been a great off-season for this team so far and I think it will carry-over all the way to the regular season.

Despite what most people think, the Cowboys have been pretty good in the draft lately.  If they can have a solid draft and avoid the injury bug that has haunted them, there is no doubt in my mind they will make the playoffs this year.

There are many variables that have led me to this conclusion.  For one this is essentially it of Jason Garrett, this team has to do something this year or he is as good as gone.  I like Garrett.  He knows the situation and he will not pull any stops.  If he is able to lead this team to where we all want it to go, with all the pressure that will be on him, it will say a lot about his coaching capabilities.  If the Cowboys get to the playoffs and make some noise when they arrive, he will certainly be the Coach here for a long time.  No question about it.

If the Cowboys suck and Garrett gets fired, there will be a total cleansing of this roster.  There will be a total rebuild and this team will be in flux for who knows how long.  Garrett brings stability and good leadership, he just has to get over the hump.  And he will.

The defense will improve basically because it can do nothing but improve.  My assumption is that they will be a pretty good defense.  They have gotten much younger and after the Draft has come and gone, we will have at least one more starting D-linemen and a new starting Safety.  This squad will be young and hungry.  Coach Marinelli has a lot of pride and I expect big things from this squad.

On Offense, we will no-longer be subject to watching the horribly frustrating dink and dunk, Bill Callahan led squad from last year.  Scott Linehan will open this thing up and his addition can not be understated.  He will make an impact and it will be noticed.  I expect this offense to be much more consistent, and I fully am expecting the return of the long-ball.  Last years unit was hard to watch, I don’t care about improvements in the red-zone last year.  They were given the ball by their defence a lot of times last year, only to squander it with the most un-coordinated offense I can remember.  Linehan will clean this mess up.

Kudos to Garrett for putting his foot down.

With all of the pressure on Romo and these Coaches, I believe that they will take that pressure and turn it into success.  Just a hunch.

I tend to Agree. One thing that you didn’t mention is that Dallas already had a couple of pretty good Dlinemen in the locker room waiting to heal so they could get their chance. Lets not let the pessimist bring us down! We have lost a lot of great players over the years and replaced them, sometimes with better ones. You never know!!!

The problem is Garrett doesn’t have a clue how to manage a game! In the last 4 years he has cost the Cowboys I would say atleast 5 wins because of his lack of game managing! It just blows my mind the things he has done. One example Cowboys vs Cards; Romo throws to Bryant ball at the 30 yard line 26 secs left with 2 timeouts. He doesn’t call one but instead rushes the FG unit on the field and calls timeout with 2 secs left as Bailey sends the ball between the upright! It felt like Garrett wager against Dallas to lose that game and he made sure it happen!!!

I agree with you sir, i guess im just a little optomistic is all. The way i see it is, if not this year, then when?
