The Dallas Cowboys have now had three consecutive 8-8 seasons. That is unacceptable for Cowboy fans. Even though they did sign Henry Melton, the Cowboys didn’t have a lot of cap space to work with in the 2014 offseason. Dallas had to release DeMarcus Ware, and it had to let Jason Hatcher walk in free agency. With barely any cap space remaining, it is crucial that the Cowboys hit in the 2014 NFL Draft. Dallas has 11 picks in May’s draft. That said, there will be a ton of players who may not have jobs after the 2014 NFL season. Let’s take a look at a few players that will need to compete for their job this season.

The Cowboys have tried and failed for years drafting mid to late round safeties. They need to try and draft a top rated safety sometime. Unless Barr is available at 16 Id really like to see them look at Dix or Pryor.

    • Bob

You can say that about most teams. Drafting a safety always seems to be risky.

There will never be an impact safety. They can take years to develop.

Why would we draft a LT when we have Smith?

    • Ryan Ratty

Right tackle. If I said left tackle, I will fix it.

Church one of the best SS in the NFL. That might be a stretch but I do think he is the best in our secondary. I like Sandrick also, now if we can get Carr to earn half of the money he’s paid and Mo to play like a 1st round talent he is we could allow those young FS’ s to develop.

    • Ryan Ratty

Agreed. Hope someone can fill in opposite of Church. Dallas needs to find a player who can hold it down in the defensive backfield.

I was really rooting for Wilcox to cement himself into that Safety slot. He certainly has the raw talent and eye for finding the ball. But his raw skills may be his undoing if he can’t make the jump this pre-season. I’d like to see him succeed.

Claiborne and Free both are making a lot of money for not doing very much. If they can really come on strong, it would be of great benefit to this team when they need these two guys to step up now more than ever.

    • Ryan Ratty

Agreed with what you said. Hopefully all three can turn it around in 2014.

    Only 5?

There are more, but these are the most notable ones.
