DraftTek 2014 NFL Mock Draft: Dallas Cowboys Select Kony Ealy

One of the best NFL Draft sites on the Internet is DraftTek.com. On the site, their writers focus on the NFL Draft 365 days a year. Every other day, the site releases a new mock draft. In the past two drafts on the site, the Dallas Cowboys have selected Timmy Jernigan and Darqueze Dennard. It is no secret the Cowboys will be in the market for a defensive linemen in the first round and it was odd seeing that one of their writers mocked Dennard to Dallas. In the latest mock draft on the site, the Cowboys selected Kony Ealy in the first round.

Playing his college football at the University of Missouri, Ealy has experience playing against some of the best college talent in the SEC. Something to know about Ealy is that he was basically a one-year wonder in college. In his sophomore season, Ealy was a rotational player. It wasn’t until his junior season when he broke out and become a presence across from Michael Sam. In his junior season, Ealy eight sacks and 14 tackles for losses. He also had an interception that he returned for a touchdown and he had three forced fumbles.

Ealy has become a popular pick for the Cowboys in mock drafts across the web, but the defensive end could go unaddressed until the later rounds. The Cowboys re-signed Anthony Spencer and they also have George Selvie who had a good season last year. The Cowboys need to draft a defensive tackle who can clog the middle next to Henry Melton and Ealy can’t do that.

Not very good value here if they take him with the 16th pick. They should go in another direction other than Kony at 16.

    • Tom Dobbins

I agree. They could trade back and still get one of those players.

      • Ryan Ratty

Agreed. Ealy could very well go in the second round.

Please don’t over reach for Ealy or Jernigan at 16. Trade back is best or take a top OL.

Jernigan is very well in play at 16. Per ESPN, Jernigan is top ten in best prospects of this class. Versatility to play 1-technique or 3-technique.
