As with most offseasons, Free Agency has had a significant impact on the NFL Draft. Many teams addressed their needs through the acquisition of veteran players. This frees them to pick from a wider pool of players and a wider pool of positions on draft day. With some needs addressed and other needs created, what can we expect in May’s  NFL draft?

The Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a very interesting situation. They have addressed the defensive line heavily in free agency by signing multiple rotational players and one true expected starter (Henry Melton). Even with these acquisitions, the DL is priority #1 this May. Anthony Spencer may be staying another year, but DeMarcus Ware departed for Denver and Dallas lacks anything resembling a speed rusher on the team.  They could also look to add a big body to play the 1 technique DT. A traditional 1 technique isn’t flashy but it’s needed. Offensive line could use some help too. Safety has been a troubling situation for years. The Cowboys could finally take care of that.

Let’s take a look at this week’s mock draft and see what the Cowboys do.


1. Houston Texans

Jadeveon Clowney

DE, South Carolina

The Texans and new head coach O’Brian know this team is only a signal caller away from contention. The problem is they aren’t overly excited about any of them at #1. Clowney is the best player in the draft and will team with JJ Watt to form one of the most feared D-Lines in the NFL.

The Texans will wait until round 2 for a QB
