One of the hottest rumors in the past few weeks is the Dallas Cowboys’ interest in Johnny Football. The sophomore sensation out of Texas A&M is arguably the most maligned prospect in this draft class. Manziel may be the most marketable prospect of all-time and Jerry Jones is known for making a big splash in the draft. NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock has the Cowboys selecting Manziel and he believes that Jones may not be able to contain himself.
Despite having arguably the worst defense of all-time last season, the interest in Manziel seems to be true. ESPN’s Todd McShay reported that Manziel is one of the top players on their draft board. As Cowboy fans have seen in recent years, Dallas sticks by its board no matter what. Many had a third-round grade on Travis Frederick last year, but the Cowboys saw him as a first-round pick. That being said, the Cowboys drafted Frederick after they traded back with the San Francisco 49ers. FoxSports reported that the Cleveland Browns nor the Oakland Raiders will draft Manziel in the top-5 and that means that he could very well go on a free-fall if he passes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
If Manziel falls into Dallas’ lap, it may be hard to pass up on the in-state prospect. Sure his game is unorthodox and he has some baggage with him, but the kid is a playmaker. He is a workaholic and he is willing to do whatever it takes to elevate a team to the next level. Dallas has Tony Romo, but it is time to build for the future. Romo is 34 years old and he has already had two major back surgeries. Drafting Manziel would be an excellent long-term investment for Dallas. Given the right cast of players around him, Manziel has all of the ability in the world to succeed at the next level.
