The Cowboys began OTAs on an all too familiar note – an injury. Details are unknown at this time but defensive leader, Sean Lee, was injured on the first day of practice today. After a collision with first round draft pick Zack Martin, Sean Lee fell to the ground reaching for what appeared to be a knee or lower leg injury.
Mike Fisher reported Sean Lee was uncharacteristically upset and scolded reporters to respect his situation.
Says Cowboys insider Mike Fisher,
For him to not be in control of his emotions, that would suggest that his emotions are being pushed by the potential severity of the injury.
Sean Lee has a vast injury history plaguing him throughout his college and professional career. Considered one of the best MIKE LBs in the game, Lee’s impact on the defense is enormous. Lee serves as the QB of the defense, calling coverages and diagnosing plays. The Cowboys have roughly 3 months until the season begins so all hopes are that the injury isn’t severe enough to push beyond that.
With such a strong reaction by Lee, it’s possible be heard something when the injury took place. His reaction was immediate and wasn’t a customary annoyance but rather pure anger and possibly panic. Whether he heard something or not is unknown but would certainly explain the strong reaction. The legendary “popping” sound is notorious for season-ending knee injuries is something we all would like to avoid.
More info when it becomes available…
