MLB Draft Start Times and Live Stream Info - Day 2

The MLB First Year Player Draft continues today and the Texas Rangers hope to add onto their already-deep farm system. The Rangers started their 2014 Draft by picking Luis Ortiz in the first round.

Ortiz, rated by many as a mid-first rounder, fell to the Rangers at 30. The 6’3” right hander from California has made a name for himself pitching in the mid-90s with potential to add more. He mixes in a slider and changeup and isn’t afraid to use them in critical situations. He has great location and a strong command.

Prior to the draft, Director of Amateur Scouting Kip Fagg had this to say,

I think we’re going to be put in a good position to make a very good selection.

Ortiz proved him right. He is a very signable player eager to begin his career. The Rangers are a little hampered by what they can spend but it shouldn’t stand in the way of striking a deal. Profiles of players drafted to come…

The draft runs 40 rounds over a 3 day period. Check out the last two days of the draft on MLB.com
