It’s fairly well-known that 2nd string QB, Kyle Orton, has been overtly absent from Valley Ranch this offseason. Orton, hinting at retirement, has missed the entire voluntary portion of the offseason causing many people (not named Brandon Weeden) to feel a little uncomfortable this spring.
Most people speculated that once the attendance was mandatory, Orton would surely appear. After all, missing mandatory events results in fines and who wants fines? Apparently Kyle Orton does because yesterday Orton missed his mandatory physical.
The next three days are also mandatory so if Orton stays missing this week he stands to lose almost $70k according to dallascowboys.com. Things could get even worse for Orton if he doesn’t resolve this issue soon. Every day missed results in fines. This could get really costly really quickly.
If Orton does retire he will be required to pay back $3.4M of his signing bonus. It doesn’t matter who you are, $3.4M is serious money.
Orton’s silence likely means he is either undecided or wishes to come to a compromise with the Dallas Cowboys. One thing is true now – Orton means business and the Cowboys would be best served if they reach out to Orton now so they can resolve this issue one way or another.
