I realize that a lot of the hoopla surrounding the Kyle Orton absences this summer were due to that lack of news but, come on man. The Cowboys should not, and I’m sure, are not, worried about the missing Orton. Brandon Weeden is more than capable of taking the reigns at the backup spot. I dont think the Cowboys lose much if anything with Weeden at the helm. In fact, Weeden has a much better arm than Orton. A lot of the hysteria stems from the fact that Weeden comes from the Browns. In all fairness, the Browns have been a mess and I think Weeden played well with what he was given there.
Dallas was able to pick Brandon Weeden up for two years with NO guaranteed MONEY! Even if Orton comes back for Training Camp, he is not going to make this team. I think Orton is done anyways, so who cares? People need to relax and give Weeden a chance here because it could be a hell of a bargain.
The truth of the matter is that the backup spot is a little over-blown. Tony Romo is this Offense, if he goes down for more than 3 games, say goodbye to the Season. This Defense will not be able to carry them and I believe that they might still be too stubborn to rely on the run in his absence. All the Cowboys need is somebody who could fill in for a game or two if Tony gets hurt. Brandon Weeden is that guy now and he will still be on September 7th.
