It’s week 1 of Cowboys Camp in Oxnard, which means it’s time to release the first training camp edition of the Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster projection.

Only a handful of practices are in the books but it’s never too early to speculate. Some players have earned more early snaps than expected, while others have been stuck on the sideline. Some players are standing out in a good way and some are standing out in a bad way.

And one player even retired.

Obviously we need to be careful not to read into things too much, but we can’t overlook what’s happening either. Here is the first Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster projection (Training Camp Week 1):

Quarterback (3)

Tony Romo

Brandon Weeden

Dustin Vaughn

No changes. No surprises. Romo is obviously the unquestioned starter and Weeden is the primary back-up. Vaughn remains an intriguing prospect that the Cowboys are slowly grooming but he’s most likely another season away from being a true back-up.

The Dallas Cowboys seem to like both Weeden and Vaughn, and are fully expected to keep them both on the final 53. Early preseason games will be important for Dustin Vaughn as he sets out to show his progression and prove his worth. Pending a complete implosion by Weeden, Vaughn will be the 3rd QB once again.
