The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most iconic franchises in all of sports, and FanSided’s Fandom 250 has given them the respect they deserve.

FanSided released their inaugural Fandom 250 rankings Tuesday, and the Dallas Cowboys made the list. Considering this is a ranking of fanbases all across mediums from political parties to political outlets and from fantasy to reality. Every fandom group from manufacturers to Manchester were ranked and tallied into this epic list and “America’s Team” found itself sitting right towards the top of the list at number five.

The Cowboys NFL ranking

The #5 ranking comes with plenty of bragging rights. For starters, the Cowboys finished above all other NFL franchises. The Green Bay Packers came the closest a full 16 slots behind at #21. A very close two slots behind them came the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots (which is really still a pretty young fanbase considering a fair amount of their fans have no idea who Jim Plunkett is) were even further behind at #30.

That’s plenty to be proud of. Those are some highly successful and highly popular fanbases they beat out. Not to mention, that’s a total of 14 Vince Lombardi Trophies behind them. That’s right, five is greater than 14.

More from Dallas Cowboys

So Dallas dominated some of the NFL’s biggest. That’s awesome. Now, how did they stack up against their rivals?

The Cowboys NFC East ranking

It should be no surprise that the Cowboys dominated the other NFC East teams. It’s not even close. The Philadelphia Eagles tried. But in the end, they ranked at 149. Sure, they boo a lot. You would, too if you had to watch the Eagles every season.

The New York Giants ranked number 180. That seems about right. Most New Yorkers I’ve encountered get far more excited about the Yankees (ranked number 25, still 20 behind the Cowboys) than they do about the Giants.

The Washington Redskins did also make the list, but they were way back at number 215, the final NFL spot on the list. Honestly, it seems a bit low for a team with their history. But there will be no tears shed in Dallas over it because it’s the hated Redskins.

The Cowboys sports-wide ranking

In the end,  the Dallas Cowboys are considered by FanSided as the second most popular fanbase in all of sports. That’s really saying something. Only baseball’s Chicago Cubs, the 2016 World Champions, ranked better and they took the top spot overall.

Considering there are still throngs of Cubs fans all over the world and they went 108 years without a championship, that’s a pretty respectable loss for the Cowboys. Sure, Dallas fans that have held on through thick and thin have seen a lot of thin recently. But most of the real Cowboys fans were alive and breathing the last time Dallas won a Super Bowl.

Next: Why the Cowboys deserve a high Fandom 250 rank

Be proud, Cowboys fans. You’ve earned this. Sure, there will be some name-calling and jealousy with words like “front-runners” and “bandwagoners.” But just remember that they hate us ‘cuz they ain’t us. These feelings are all rooted in jealousy because every one of them would love to have someone suddenly pick up and root for their team. Cowboys fans accept anyone and everyone that wants to come along for the ride. That’s why they rank fifth, and it’s precisely why they’re “America’s Team.”
