The Fandom 250 ranked the Dallas Cowboys number five, and this top five ranking  proves that America’s Team is one of the most popular institutions in the world.

Already worth five Billion dollars, the Dallas Cowboys are worth more than any sports franchise in North America. That’s right, the Cowboys are worth more than those New York Yankees.

To further prove this point, FanSided Fandom 250 listed the storied franchise at #5. This is one high ranking when you consider who Dallas was competing against. This ranking consists of politics, fantasy football, reality shows, manufacturers, and other sports franchises.

All of these mediums have their own rabid fanbase, and Dallas was able to supplant themselves with a dominant sports fanbase. For instance, the Cowboys have a higher ranking than European soccer club Manchester United, who are ranked #24.

More from Dallas Cowboys

The people in England love themselves some soccer, which is a more popular sport worldwide than American Football. But for Dallas to rank higher than Manchester’s fanbase speaks volumes.

What is even better is that the closet NFL team to Dallas were the Green Bay Packers at #21 (sorry, Cheese Head fans).

America’s Team Fanbase

The Dallas Cowboys are called America’s Team for a reason. Although NFL Films editor-in-chief Bob Ryan coined the term America’s Team, it’s important to know why he used this moniker for them.

While editing a video, Ryan noticed masses of fans during their away games wearing Dallas shirts and hats. Ryan figured that with so many fans representing the Cowboys on road games, he needed a term that represented America.

Therefore, the term was born and has stuck since 1979.

Traveling Fanbase

It’s only fitting because Dallas fans are everywhere, with fan clubs nationwide. Regardless of who they play on the road, the stadium will have its fair share of Cowboys Nation.

The best example is the Cleveland Browns game. When the cameras focused on the fans in the stadium, it was packed with Dallas fans wearing different paraphernalia. The crowd erupted every time the Cowboys scored a touchdown.

Literally, it felt like a game at AT&T Stadium.

Even when the Browns did anything remotely good, the stadium was quiet. Another example of Dallas fans having the best fanbase is the game against the Minnesota Vikings.

After the game, when the sports analysts were talking to Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, there was a whole section of Cowboys fans behind them. I’m not talking about a small section.

I’m referring to a large section covering hundreds of seats. Throughout the game, of course, you could hear the thunderous cheers of their rabid fan base.

This was a game that took place in frigid Minnesota, and Cowboys Nation was able to pack the house, or at least let their voices be heard.

Historic Fanbase

The reason why Dallas is ranked number one is because of the Tom Landry era. Like an Army recruiter looking for young soldiers, Landry’s consistent winning of games and Super Bowls recruited Cowboys fans from everywhere.

The dramatic come-from-behind victories by Roger Staubach, the “Doomsday Defense” and players like Bob Hill, Don Meredith, Mel Renfro, Bob Lilly, Calvin Hill, Drew Pearson, Don Perkins, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Randy White, Tony Dorsett, Robert Newhouse, and Everson Walls helped shape the mystique of this historic franchise.

Influential Fanbase

From politicians (New Jersey Governor Chris Christie) to movie stars (Denzel Washington and Jamie Foxx) to hip hop stars (Jay-Z ) and basketball stars (LeBron James), Cowboys fans are everywhere, coming in all walks of life.

Worldwide Fanbase

Further, the Dallas’ fans are worldwide, even in England, home of Manchester United.

They’re the team you love to hate, but they are one of the most dramatic sports team. This team either wins big or loses big. Just look at the ratings for proof.

Highest-rated Fanbase

The NFL’s Thursday night game between Dallas and the Minnesota Vikings was the highest rated Thursday night game ever.

It was the highest-rated game not because of all the Cowboys fans that tuned in, but because the HATERS watch and follow their games as much as the Dallas fanbase.

The HATERS and critics must watch the Cowboys’ game because they want to see them lose.

Next: Cowboys fans should be pleased with their fandom 250 ranking

Just like in a movie, there is a protagonist and an antagonist. Well, that’s Dallas..

And everyone loves to watch a movie full of drama. That’s why America’s Team is the MAIN ATTRACTION!
