The 2014 NFL Draft may be three months away but it’s never too early to starting mocking. Today we’re going to mock all seven rounds of the draft for the Cowboys. We will take a look at who may be available and who the Cowboys could be targeting. Assisting Sport DFW today with this seven round mock draft is Fanspeak.com’s Mock Draft Simulator.

Fanspeak’s Mock Draft Simulator combines player rankings with team needs in order to determine what pick each team will make. The weight of each variable will shift slightly from draft to draft so each time a mock draft is conducted the results will slightly vary.

Have you ever found yourself screaming at the TV on draft day, calling Jerry Jones an idiot and boldly stating how much better you’d be as a GM than he is? Here’s your chance to put your money where your mouth is and mock it yourself.

Follow Sport DFW as we take an early stab at drafting through Fanspeak’s simulator. At the end, we will link you in and let you take a shot at it.

1st Round

DT Ra’Shede Hageman Minnesota

Profile: Standing at 6’6″ and 318lbs, Hageman is physically imposing. Picture Tyron Smith on defense. Hageman can play multiple positions on the line but is clearly best suited for Jason Hatcher‘s (soon to be vacant) 3 technique DT spot. He has burst, speed and strength to thrive in the NFL. He disappears on film a bit too often but if he can stay motivated, he could be a star in the NFL. Hageman has been ranked all over round one. As the draft nears, expect him to rocket up teams’ draft boards. The potential is too temping and Hageman’s ability looks a lot like last years’ Sheldon Richardson.

Ya’ll know I’d be screaming for everybody’s head if it goes down like this. No OG until the second 7th round pick? Are you kidding me?! I wouldn’t care how “ecstatic” they were…whoever “they” are. I’d just want them gone. But then I’m still PO’d JJ took Escobar instead of Warford last year and JJ ain’t going anywhere.

    • Reid Hanson

I certainly wanted a G in the 3rd or 4th and planned to target a couple when the time came but the ones I wanted were gone and the ones that were available were largely a crap shoot or a reach. Player rankings will be changing weekly so don’t expect the same to happen again, but it is worth noting sometimes the players you want, at the spot you want them, just aren’t available.
I couldn’t agree more about Escobar. Even if he becomes a good player the Cowboys had much bigger needs than a #2 TE. SMH

I’m afraid the Boys will see it like you and take a backup OG late but I’m praying they take Richardson, Yankey, or Su’a Filo in the 2nd round and then go defense the rest of the way…assuming they don’t get Zack Martin in the first that is. Yeah I know…I’m dreaming.

        • Reid Hanson

That’s a solid plan and you’ll hear no argument from me.

Probably the best all around mock I’ve seen for us. Though I wouldn’t be opposed to evaluating the G/T spot in the 4th IF our first 3 rounds went this way. I’m seriously hoping for a miracle trade-down….Swapping with the Browns at 26 and getting their pick at 35 as a bonus sounds great in my head! hahaha

    • Reid Hanson

I love the trade proposal you’re suggesting but do any of us expect Jerry to properly execute it? The less “cute” Jerry gets the better!

      • Chad

I admit that the Brown’s only second round pick as compensation is a stretch, but their third rounder (71) is pretty doable which might land us Cyril Richardson. Being able to land 4 guys in the top 5 of their respective positions is hard to let slip, but we are talking about Jerruh here. My hopes for this scenario would be Ealy (26), Sutton (48), Richardson (71), and there should be about 1/2 a dozen safeties of approximately the same caliber to pick at 78. My 5 picks after that would be a mash up of best player available at OT / G, LB, WR, DE / DT, and maybe a QB sprinkled in there somewhere if he’s considered a steal at that point.

  • Scott.

First two picks are solid, with the 3rd I’d like to see best ol available taken. They’ve invested 3 and a 4th on Wilcox and Johnson and they aren’t going anywhere.

  • Earl Robertson

I like this draft but it is just a fantasy. One with Jones you never know what stupidity he might pull and second none of those guys are guarantee to be there at those spots. But if Dallas follows a similar plan like this maybe things will start looking better. Dallas needs to pick players from big time schools over projects from small schools. Also stay away from guys that are good but have slip because of injured concerns. We have seen they may be great value (Lee) but so what if they aren’t on the field (Lee)

    • Chad

Jerry still hopes that he finds a diamond in the rough like he did with Larry. If he goes with a major school, you can bet he’s gonna look hard at a razorback.
