The Dallas Cowboys are officially one quarter through the 2014 regular season. As expected some players’ stocks are soaring to historic values, while others are plummeting to utter worthlessness.

Here in Part 1 of your Dallas Cowboys Stock Report we will take a look at the Hot stocks of the Cowboys stock exchange.

BUY Report

RB DeMarco Murray

A true overnight Blue Chipper. DeMarco Murray entered the season in the final year of his rookie contract. The Cowboys hinted at an offseason extension but seemed to prefer he play out his current deal to better assess his worth. So far DeMarco has skyrocketed his value behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

DeMarco stands out above all other RB alternatives on the Cowboys and is leading the league in rushing by a comfortable margin. DeMarco joins Dez Bryant as the only other blue chip stock on the Dallas Cowboys and is paying major dividends to his preseason investors.

The true test of Murray’s value will depend on his ability to stay healthy. The uber-talented RB has a history of injuries dating back to college. DeMarco Murray needs to prove he can be relied on in order to justify the mega-deal he’s looking for.

LB Rolando McClain

As far as “buy-low/sell-high” investments, it’s hard to find a better example than LB Rolando McClain. From day 1 he has stood out with superior size and athleticism on a defense that severely lacked both.

With limited practice time, McClain wasted no time making an impression this regular season. Still nursing injury, the defense looks night and day when McClain is manning the middle. It’s not too late to jump on the McClain bandwagon, but rated by Pro Football Focus as the very best ILB so far this season, time is running out to invest.

CB Sterling Moore

Speaking of buy-low/sell-high, Sterling Moore is about to see some consistent action and a chance to really prove himself around the league. Used as a fill-in for the injured secondary, Moore has seen playing time from all the CB spots while playing a total of 135 plays.

How has he done?

Moore is currently rated by Pro Football Focus as the #3 rated CB in the NFL based on individual play execution. Now with Morris Claiborne out for the season, Sterling has a chance to serve as the Cowboys nickel corner alongside Brandon Carr and Orlando Scandrick.

Other noteworthy performers: DT Henry Melton and DT/DE Tyrone Crawford (two of the top performing D-linemen in the league so far), Dez Bryant (for obvious blue chip play), Tony Romo (improving every week), Jason Witten (for grading out as the best run-blocking TE in the NFL), and Tyron Smith (for being the best O-linemen on the Cowboys and 4th rated OT in the NFL)
