Mavericks AM News: Dallas Falls To Utah In Overtime

The Dallas Mavericks found away to stop their own momentum again by falling to the Utah Jazz at American Airlines Center to enter the All-Star break.
The Utah Jazz hadn’t won a game at American Airlines Center since 2010. On Tuesday night the Dallas Mavericks allowed that trend to die following a 121-119 overtime loss to a Utah team that’s not won seven-straight games.
Normally tough in overtime games, the Mavericks were unable to hold on to an early 15-point lead in a game that probably shouldn’t have needs overtime to begin with. Dallas had it’s chances to win in regulation, but couldn’t hit big shots or get stops.
If there’s one thing we know about the Mavericks, it’s that this team can really play lousy defense. The Jazz shot a red-hot 52.2-percent in this contest, a mark that negated Dallas’ 37.9-percent shooting beyond the arc.
Forward Chandler Parsons led the Mavs in scoring with 24 points in yet another indicator that the fifth-year veteran will likely opt out of the final year of his original three-year deal signed upon leaving the Houston Rockets following the 2013-14 season.

You think Houston, at just 27-27 while holding the eighth and final seed in the Western Conference, might not have some regrets about letting this guy go? Don’t bet money that Parsons is back in Dallas next season.
Five Mavericks scored in double figures during this final game before the All-Star break.
But the Jazz had five players in double figures as well – remember that plus-50-percent shooting percentage Dallas gave up. Guard Rodney Hood led all scorers with 29 points on 12-for-26 shooting.
Utah now looks up at the Mavericks with the seventh seed in the Western Conference while Dallas tried to find a way to string together some wins.
After starting February with an 0-3 record, the Mavericks are now 10-13 since the New Year began. Dallas remains above .500, but by just three games with a record of 29-26. Upon returning to action against the Orlando Magic a week from Friday, the Mavericks will have just 27 games remaining to determine exactly what type of team they’re going to be in the postseason – if they actually make it that far.
