With Dallas Cowboys training camp now under way, the roster will be evaluated, players released, and the roster, churned.

The week has finally come for the Dallas Cowboys will open training camp. And it’s not only the Dallas Cowboys who are starting, but all of NFL teams will soon be starting training camp to see what they have on the roster.

This is a time when veterans, mid-level players, and rookies all face competition for roster spots. Sometimes a younger player comes in who’s cheaper, looks better, and/or to has a higher ceiling and replaces a known veteran. Other times, there is an injury, too many players, or some internal issue. The basic idea is that rosters get churned and players move from one team to another.

On the Dallas Cowboys there are a few players that could be moved. Whether it’s a rookie , a free agent, a just a more versatile player, someone will be moved. The first name that comes to mind is Alfred Morris. Morris has some decent ability as a running back, but he doesn’t play special teams and isn’t a great blocker.

This is where Jahad Thomas has a great opportunity to make a name for himself.

The harsh reality of “churn” shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who’s an NFL fan. It happens in every camp and in every season. Morris is just one example.

As it currently stands the Dallas Cowboys have a few needs they could be on the lookout for as other players are cut from other teams. A short list (negotiable based on your point of view), backup quarterback, backup running back, safety depth, linebacker depth, and pass rushing depth.

There are some names floating around that could lose their jobs to rookies or could be cut that fill some of these needs.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Defensive end Sheldon Richardson of the Jets could be looking for a new location. When healthy Richardson is a pretty good pass rusher, when healthy. Stephone Anthony, the New Orleans Saints’ linebacker, is another name to watch for. Anthony isn’t going to be a super star for anyone, but for depth he could be a nice addition if he is let go.

Of course there are big names as well. Alex Smith, Jeremy Hill, and Sammie Coates are all at potential risk of losing their jobs to rookies. It is a time when the Dallas Cowboys could find depth with little risk and fairly fair contracts. Rolando McClain is one example of this type of contract. Sure, he didn’t last longer than a season and a half, but he did fantastic for that time.

Below tell me who you think the Dallas Cowboys should cut, keep, or look to be cut from other teams. I think they will indeed look for help along the defensive line, and depending on suspension maybe at running back.

For now watch the battles in training camp, and watch for the roster to be churned.
