TCU Baseball’s Best Eats

TCU baseball offers a variety of food at its games. From the traditional hot dog and nachos to the less traditional fajita and taco stand, TCU baseball offers food for anyone’s pallet.

Having attended many TCU games in my day and sampled all the food that TCU baseball has to offer, it came down to three finalists for the TCU baseball’s best concession. Those were the kettle corn, the Chicken Express Sweet Tea, and Dave’s Funnel Cakes.

I quickly realized that the only worth while concession at the Sodexo stands is the Chicken Express sweet tea, and that is because…it comes from Chicken Express. Occasionally on Sundays, a few dollar hot dogs hit the spot, but I prefer the unique vendors.

The kettle corn stand offers a variety of flavors from cheddar popcorn to jalapeno corn. However, they fell out of the running because their bags of kettle corn cost $6 and better value can be found elsewhere inside Lupton Stadium.

The other non-winning finalist was the Chicken Express Sweet Tea which can be bought for $3.50 at any concession stand in the stadium. The sweet tea is very tasty and offers good value to students who can buy the tea with their student ID and send the bill home for their parents to pay. I have heard horror stories from students who have spent over $500 on their student ID which maxed out the bill to be sent home. However, the tea cups are a bit small, and refills are not offered.

Therefore the distinction for best food at the TCU game goes to Dave’s funnel cakes. The tasty treat that is a favorite of kids all around the country is cooked fresh as it is ordered by Dave, the funnel cake and corn dog maker. For $5, the funnel cake is also a bargain. Loaded with powdered sugar, the fried dough melts in your mouth as it is taken straight out of the deep frying grease.

At Dave’s stand, he also sells corned dogs, lemonade, and lemon and strawberry chills. The corn dogs also rank as one of the top concessions at the game. Dave’s stand can be found on the first base side of the stadium behind the concourse near the hill and party deck.

Not only is the food some of the best, but it offers the best value and is cooked ready to order. No stale funnel cakes are sold at this establishment.

So despite the delicious sweet tea and the many flavors of kettle corn offered, Dave’s funnel cakes have the honor of being the best food that TCU baseball has to offer. It’s a delectable treat for sure.
