Supporting the Dallas Cowboys Since 1962

Hello Dallas Cowboy Fans, my name is “Brady Parker”.  I would like to give my thanks to C.J. Wright  for the opportunity to be a contributor for the 2012 season.  Also, a special thanks to Mark Contreras, Mark is a very true and loyal Cowboy fan, and a great asset to The Landry Hat. I enjoyed his point of view, even though we have not agreed on everything, but make no mistake he is a true fan.  I met Joseph last year while commenting with some of the writers for The Landry Hat.  I had a great time exchanging comments with all of the TLH staff last year; which lead to an invitation to be a contributor at DFW Sports blog. Many thanks. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity and I know it will be fun in the process.  I will be contributing a post now and again with my views and thoughts of how the Cowboys are doing,  either Good, Bad or the Extremely bad, hopefully it will be extremely good, good enough for a return to the Super Bowl.  It has been way too long for a franchise like the Dallas Cowboys to have been absent from the late round playoffs. Unfortunately the Cowboys have been absent; and it is time for Jerry Jones to either fix the problems, or move over and hire someone with real GM credentials.  16 years of disappointments is enough

I can not wait to see what the 2012 draft has in store for the Cowboys. I am not going to get into speculation of draft picks, on who the Cowboys should draft or should not draft, simply because no one really knows, not even Jerry Jones.  The draft changes so quickly. I would rather talk about who they drafted, and who was on the board when Dallas made the pick. It is easier in my opinion to speculate at that point about their choice. Last year, as you know, Tyron Smith went number 1 for the Boys, and was good solid pick at the tackle position. Bruce Carter was #2 but played very little late in the season, there are big expectations for Carter in 2012 season.  DeMarco Murray (Oklahoma) was the steal of the 2011 draft was a home-run pick; some analysts only graded Murray as a C+ for the season, I guess that is fair, since he was injured and did not play for the entire season. One thing is certain: Murray will be ready in 2012.

I sincerely hope Jerry and his staff are ready for the draft, for another colossal failure in Dallas and missing the playoffs will not set well with the Dallas media or the Dallas fan base. At which point, Jerry might see a decline where it hurts the most, his pocket book, as his season ticket holders may say that’s all folks.  Dallas has some very solid players in place, let’s just hope he can fill in the gaps and make it work.

I have been a die hard Dallas Cowboy fan since 1962. The Dallas Cowboys were just in their second year of existence, and it showed. My father was a Cowboy nut. I was very fortunate to have a father that spent as much time with me as he did.  Dad was,  to say the least, a Die Hard dyed in the wool Dallas Cowboy fan.  My father, up to the day that he passed away in 2006, never ever forgave Jerry Jones for the firing of  Tom Landry, or for the way that Jones handled Coach Landry’s dismissal.   I remember the weekend trips from Harlingen, Texas to Dallas, a long 8 hour drive. We always left on Friday night, it made for a long night, but it was a great weekend, again I will say I was lucky to have a father that took time to introduce me to NFL football and the Dallas Cowboys. I have been fortunate to see games in each decade.

Just like the rest of you, I get angry and frustrated; the Dallas Cowboys are not supposed to have losing seasons or miss the playoffs, we are “Americas Team”, so they say. That is a nice tag, but personally, I do not like it, never have and never will. It is just a big target on the backs of the players and the franchise. We are just an NFL football team, located in Dallas, Texas who has appeared in 8 Super Bowl appearances and have won 5 World Championships. Nuff said.

The 1962 season was not too kind to Dallas, as they finished 5-8-1, with the New York Giants winning the division at 12-2. Let me say something: we went to Dallas in November to watch Dallas play the New York Giants. I was a young man and I was just as giddy as you could get.  It is a game I will never ever forget. My dad was a police officer and he used that little perk back then to get us close up to watch the teams enter the playing field. Can you imagine that, I was thrilled to see not only the Dallas Cowboys and the likes of HOF, Bob Lilly (Mr. Cowboy) “Dandy” Don Meredith, Cornell Green, Jerry Tubbs and QB Eddie Lebaron.  On the New York side, how about names like QB Y.A. Tittle, LB Sam Huff, Frank Gifford, who played HB, WR and DB, Andy Robustelli DE and Tackle Rosey Brown.  Five Hall of Fame players from the 1962 Giants team.  I was like a kid in a candy store to have been able to see these guys play.
