Texas Rangers, FC Dallas, and Dallas Cowboys: What to Watch this Weekend in DFW

The Rangers and FC Dallas are both still positioned for playoffs runs but need to push through this rough stretch before it’s too late. FC Dallas continues its painful winless streak while the Rangers are searching everywhere for offense.

Oh yeah, The Dallas Cowboys are finally back in action playing in the opening preseason game on Sunday. Following all of the Hall of Fame festivities the Dallas Cowboys will face the Miami Dolphins in the annual Hall of Fame Game.

Texas Rangers

Last Friday it felt as if the Rangers were finally breaking out of their slump and ready to go chase the A’s for the division crown. Sadly the weekend brought doom, gloom, and bad baseball as the Rangers continued their slide and fell further behind the A’s

Perhaps those emotional come-from-behind walk-off wins against the Angels snapped the Rangers out of it because this slump needs to officially end and the Rangers need to get back to business. This weekend the Rangers travel to Oakland to take on the division leaders in a 3 game series. A lot can change this weekend in a hurry as Ogando, Garza, and Holland try to lead the Rangers back into division contention.

FC Dallas

The slide for FC Dallas continues. FC Dallas has not won since 6/12 and needs to get back on track yesterday. The Friendly with Stoke City didn’t work in their favor as they fell last week 1-0. Now the club gets a shot at Seattle. Time is running out on FC Dallas…

The long hard summer is coming to a close as we enter the month of August. That typically means one thing – The Cowboys are finally back. They will play an extra preseason game this year as they face the Miami Dolphins in the Hall of Fame Game. The Induction Ceremony at 7pm Saturday night will show Larry Allen enshrined. He promises to give a thrilling speech (much sarcasm intended)!

Sunday the Cowboys will get back into action on the field against a real opponent. While the starters aren’t expected to play much, there will be plenty of camp battles to watch for. Pay special attention to this:

  • Watch the Offensive Line – They were the weakness of the team in 2012 and if the Cowboys have any hope of success in 2013 they need the line to improve.
  • Watch the Defensive Tackles – The Cowboys are undersized and lacking depth at Defensive Tackle. They need to prove they can stop the run or the Cowboys may be in for a long season. Pay special attention to their ability to occupy blockers and prevent the offensive guards from hitting the next level.
  • Watch the Secondary – The cornerbacks will be playing in new coverage schemes and their ability to execute is as important as their ability to disguise coverage. The safeties will be the camp battle to watch for. Barry Church has the FS spot locked down but the SS is still wide open.
