Texas Rangers, FC Dallas, and Dallas Cowboys: What to Watch this Weekend in DFW
By Reid Hanson
Football is back – Just when things were getting interesting for the Rangers. It’s another fun sports weekend in D/FW. The Rangers are traveling to Anaheim to take on the Angels. FC Dallas, fresh off their off weekend, are at home facing Vancouver on Saturday night. And the Dallas Cowboys are officaly back as the regular season begins for them Sunday night when the Giants travel to Texas.

Texas Rangers
The Rangers sure like to make it interesting don’t they? After completely fumbling the Twins series last weekend they limped through the midweek matchup against the A’s. For how they were playing the last 7 days it’s amazing they are ½ a game ahead in the division.
Now the Rangers head to Anaheim to play the Angels in a 3 game series this weekend. While the Angels aren’t very good they are still a threat.
The Rangers face C.J. Wilson tonight as he looks to continue his hot streak and finally dominate his former team. Matt Garza needs to snap out of his funk sooner rather than later and tonight will be an excellent test for him to do so.
The Rangers need to keep winning because the A’s are in Houston and we all know how easy Houston is. The Rangers got a break when Houston upset the A’s last night. That probably won’t happen again.

FC Dallas
Last week FC Dallas had the weekend off. With just one win since June 12th FC Dallas has struggled much of this summer. Perhaps we just needed to get through Labor Day. Now they face Vancouver as they look to put summer behind them and move into the stretch run of the season.

Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys play the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium on Sunday night. The Giants are undefeated in the new place and look to extend their streak. They are suffering from some pretty significant injuries so it’s unknown how big of a role some of their key players (JPP and Victor Cruz primarily) can play.
The Cowboys have OG Ronald Leary back and newly signed Brian Waters added to the roster. It will take a couple weeks to get a fair assessment of their impact since neither are in game shape and will be struggling to contribute fully.
If history tells us anything it’s that the Giants will try to take away the deep stuff and will let Witten catch all the short stuff he wants. If Romo can stay patient this could still work in the Cowboys favor.
Watch the new 12 offense which plays 2 TEs and 1 back. The Cowboys publically held back in the preseason and are looking to show off some fancy new plays.
Finally pay special attention to the new 4-3 defense. Read about the Defense here (Part 1: Defensive Preview) and here (Part 2: Defensive Preview). The Cowboys are very weak in the middle and need to find a way to stop the Giants run game.
