1st Round: Zack Martin, Offensive Guard/Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame
Before you throwing something at your screen, bare with me for a second. With the rumors of the Cowboys going after Henry Melton, I don’t think it’s necessary for the Cowboys to spend their first-round pick on defense. I’m not for drafting Ha Ha Clinton-Dix or Calvin Pryor, and I’m not all for Kony Ealy either. Let me make something clear: if the Cowboys don’t sign Melton, I fully expect them to take Aaron Donald or Ra’Shede Hageman in the first round. Dallas had much better play upfront from their offensive line, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get better. Martin has the ability to be an above-average offensive linemen in the NFL. The Notre Dame star can play guard and tackle, which allows him to play four positions on the offensive line. Martin could come in and make an immediate impact at the point of attack. Tony Romo has constant back problems, and the Cowboys should do him a favor by keeping him upright even more. Another thing is that I don’t trust Doug Free. If he has another year like he did in 2012, I would send him packing and move Martin over to right tackle. Versatility is important for offensive linemen, and that is why I really like Martin for the Cowboys in the middle of the first round.
