First Round:
Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA – I am keeping him as the pick from yesterday’s mock draft. The thing I like about this pick is the ability of Barr to play two positions. The fact that he will be considered a DE after the first round makes the second round a little more interesting as to who is available. Barr has the size and speed to play DE and if needed can move to OLB and not really miss a beat. Here is where it gets interesting. If in the second round a DE is the BPA it would be easy to move Barr to OLB and thus, fill two heavy needs on the D side of the ball.
Listed at 6’5” 255lbs Barr looks the part of a DE. He had a 4.41 40 at his pro day, however a 4.56 at the combine. His positives are that he is fast, agile, and has amazing balance. He gets after the QB quickly has has a variety of moves he can use. He hits like a truck and constantly commands double teams. His negatives are that he is not the strongest in coverage or run recognition, but has the intelligence to fix this quickly. I would expect him to be the starting DE and would only be an OLB if the Cowboys wanted to get more pass rushers on the field or if they wanted to move him a little bit to confuse the QB.
