Ryan Smith, S, Auburn

Smith was not highly ranked as a safety going into the draft. Standing at 6’1”, 195 pounds, he has the size to play safety, although he may want to add a few pounds. He had a 4.51 40-yard dash and looks like he can flat out run. He plays with a high motor and has a decent nose for the ball. He might be better suited for corner if he can’t add some size and isn’t the best tackler. He reads plays well, but seems to get lost in the wash at times.

How does he fit? We all know how the Cowboys feel about their safeties, Smith will have the chance to backup either safety position and will most likely get the chance to play a little cornerback as well. He is a project with some upside. It will all depend on which position he plays and how well he does in camp.
