Lone Star Brahmas Bring Home Three Points From Wildcats Series

The Lone Star Brahmas came into Saturday’s game against Wichita Falls having picked up only one point in the standings over the past three games. While still early in the season, Lone Star needed to find a way to get back on track with a win to avoid slipping further in the standings.
Things did not look good early when Wichita Falls went on the power play just four minutes into the contest, but TJ Black made a couple of huge saves to keep the Wildcats off the board. Wichita Falls thought they had taken a lead midway through the mad advantage when the puck was knocked out from under Black’s glove and into the net. However, the goal was waived off because the whistle had blown well ahead of the puck going in.
At 11:40 the Brahmas took advantage of a man advantage opportunity after moving the puck crisply around the perimeter. Sebastian Vidmar sent the puck from low on the right wing to Anton Santesson at the blueline. Santesson found Pat Egan at the near faceoff dot and he fired it over the glove hand of David Zevnik.
With just under 13 to go in the second the Brahmas found themselves up two goals. Eric Carreras carried the puck in on the far side and gave it to Cody Wickline at the top of the circle then went to the front along with Vidmar. Wickline put the puck on net and Vidmar poked it behind Zevnik at 7:09.
Wichita Falls cut the lead to one on the power play at 11:26 when Kevin Charyszyn redirected Matt Koch’s shot from the blueline over Black. Nick Farmer was credited with the secondary assist.
It didn’t take long for Lone Star to get the goal back off the stick of Roman Uchyn after he sent one off the cross bar moments earlier on a breakaway. Hayden Hanson pulled the puck out of a battle along the endboards and gave it to Egan at the far point for a one timer. Zevnik made the initial save, but Uchyn had planted himself on the doorstep to clean up the rebound. Time of the goal was 15:07.

In the third period the Brahmas picked up a couple of insurance goals with the first coming at 13:03. Bud Madej sprung Oskar Andren into the offensive zone with speed. Andren saucered a backhand pass into the slot where Carreras put it past Austin Shaw who had replaced Zevnik to open the period. Then just 44 seconds later, the Wildcats went into desperation mode pulling Shaw for a faceoff to Black’s right. Despite the extra attacker, Uchyn moved the puck out of the defensive zone and sent Egan deep down the far side. Egan circled behind the net and gave it to Santesson in the high slot for a wrister into the empty net to close out the scoring.
Wichita Falls led the shots on goal battle 37 – 23 and both teams were 1 – 5 on the power play. Egan’s three points on 1G – 2A led five Lone Star skaters with multiple points on the night while Black made 36 saves for the win.
The Brahmas will open the home portion of their schedule on Friday October 10th when the host the Corpus Christi Icerays.

Wenatchee – Corpus Christi
The Icerays completed their home sweep of the visiting Wenatchee Wild by a score of 2 – 1. Tanner Lomsnes and Connor Kelly were the goal scorers for Corpus Christi and Luke Pickar made 23 saves for the win.
Amarillo – Topeka
The Bulls and Roadrunners finally were able to get their series underway after Friday’s game was postponed to Sunday due to a malfunctioning Zamboni. Willie Brown scored in the first and Mike Gornall added a goal in the second then Matej Tomek made it stand up stopping all but one of the 23 shots he faced.
