Round 1: UCLA DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa

The Cowboys had only 28 sacks in 2014. The number was good enough, well bad enough for 28th in the league. Jeremy Mincey and Henry Melton were the sack leaders of the defense, however, there needs to be changes this offseason. Although Melton was a good pass rusher, he failed against the run and that led to the Cowboys not exercising the second year of his contract. Although he had a resurgent year in 2014, Mincey will likely not repeat the success he had this past season and that’s why the Cowboys need to go after a pass rusher early in this year’s draft.

Perhaps the guy who will likely be available when the Cowboys are on the clock is Owamagbe Odighizuwa. At 6-foot-4, 265 pounds, with long arms and big hands, Odighizuwa has a ton of positives going for him. His weight is well-compacted in his body and Odighizuwa truly is shredded with muscle. Against the run, Odighizuwa is excellent at holding the edge and making plays in the backfield. He isn’t the best pass rusher in this year’s draft, but with Rod Marinelli and Leon Lett coaching him up, Odighizuwa will be able to put his traits together and become a finished product.
